Pilots, it’s time that we went on the offensive here in the Aturi Cluster. Alliance intelligence has analyzed the data which our Operatives brought back during their recon efforts and identified a system in the cluster which Imperial supply lines seem to frequent. We suspect an Imperial Refueling station is concealed there. However, there is a sophisticated sensor net in that system’s Oort Cloud which prohibits our entry, and you’re going to punch a hole in that network.
If we can capture this station, we would gain a well defended staging area. Disable the sensor net and we can launch our attack.

We determined our best bet would be to punch through the sensor net ring at two separate points, in order to throw the Imperials off. One strike team attacked a section of the sensor network, and a second team launched shortly thereafter. Lt. Jasall participated in both operations.
In the Alpha Strike team were Wizard and Scorch, who managed to swiftly punch out a gap in the network protecting the Argus Solar System. Minimal patrol interceptors were alerted, Scorch's overclocked engine on the Y-Wing allowed him to hit-and-fade on the beacons while Wizard screened him and kept him unmolested by enemy craft.
Unfortunately, Beta Strike team was less fortunate. We had punched through about half of the network links when JEB barreled through a TIE Fighter wolfpack which surprised us from around an asteroid.

That's when the noose closed around us. The Imperials had to have known we were coming. They prepared a fearsome trap involving the dreaded MANTICORE, a veteran enemy pilot. He dropped out of Hyperspace and drew a bead on Doublehooks. Some sort of directed energy weapon was fired. Small green tributary beams joined together and then lanced out to bisect Tervlon's craft in half in a single glancing blow. He ejected in a cloud of debris and dust. I've never seen anything like it on a fightercraft. We scrambled to react and finish off the sensor net, but JEB had his own problems to deal with. He exploded when enemy Fighters and Interceptors boxed him in and cut his craft to shreds. |
I was the last Alliance craft in the vicinity, and MANTICORE turned his gaze on me. I managed to juke and dodge his line-of-sight until I gunned the hyperdrive. Pushing the engines as hard as they could, I tried to put some distance between MANTICORE's beam weapon and myself, but I was not fast enough.
The Target-lock warning tone begins ringing in my ears.

At least one of our strike teams were able to make it through. I hope Alliance command finds something of worth in the Argus System to make up for the loss of material. We'll have to pay MANTICORE back soon enough...
